Purpose and Publication

1. The Journal of the Earthquake Engineering Society of Korea (J. Earthq. Eng. Soc. Korea; hereinafter referred to as the “Journal”) is the official journal of the EESK (hereinafter referred to as the “Society”). The Journal publishes original research articles on the theory, development, and application of earthquake engineering. Other related papers may be published at the discretion of the Editorial Board.

 

2. The Journal is published bimonthly (January, March, May, July, September, and November), with each issue released on the first day of the publication month. Until December 2012, the Journal was issued on the last day of even-numbered months.

 

Manuscript Submission

1. At least one author of each manuscript must be a member of the Society.

 

2. Manuscripts that do not comply with these submission guidelines will not be considered for review.

 

3. All manuscripts must be submitted through the online submission system.

3) Only authors of accepted manuscripts are required to submit a Copyright Transfer Agreement and a Conflict of Interest Disclosure Form.

 

Manuscript Preparation

1. Manuscripts must be written in Korean or English.

 

2. The length must not exceed 10 printed pages, including figures and photographs. Up to four additional pages are permitted at a charge of KRW 30,000 per page; however, the total length may not exceed 14 pages.

 

3. Manuscripts must be prepared using a word processor and formatted in accordance with the sample manuscript available on the Society’s website.

 

4. Manuscripts should be organized in the following order: Korean title; author names; Korean affiliations and positions; English title; English author names; English affiliations and positions; English abstract; English keywords; main text; acknowledgments; references; and appendix (if applicable).

 

5. The title should clearly and concisely reflect the content of the manuscript. For manuscripts written in Korean, an English title must also be provided. If the title exceeds 50 characters (including spaces), a shortened title of no more than 50 characters must be submitted.

 

6. Author names should appear below the title. For English manuscripts, names should be presented in last name–first name order. The corresponding author’s name and email address must be provided in a footnote on the first page.

 

7. The English abstract must be written as a single paragraph that clearly states the purpose, methods, and main results of the study and must not exceed 200 words. Three to six keywords in English should be listed below the abstract.

 

8. Equations and symbols must follow standard notation. Numbered equations should be presented on a separate line, with the equation number indicated.

 

9. All units must conform to the International System of Units (SI). If non-SI units are used, the corresponding SI equivalents must be provided in parentheses.

 

10. Tables, figures, and photographs should be prepared on separate pages.

 

11. References in the text must be cited using Arabic numerals in square brackets [ ] immediately following the relevant text and listed in the order of citation.

 

12. A single reference should be cited as [1]; two references as [1, 2]; consecutive references as [2–5]; and nonconsecutive references as [1, 3, 5]. When cited at the end of a sentence, the reference number must appear before the period (e.g., “… did [1].”). When cited within a sentence, the reference number should appear before the comma (e.g., “… as reported in [1], …”).

 

13. When citing authors in the text, use the following formats. For Korean-language manuscripts: Hong Gil-dong and Lee Seong-gye [1]; for three or more authors, Hong Gil-dong et al. [1]. For English-language manuscripts: Hong and Lee [1]; for three or more authors, Hong et al. [1].

 

14. References must be listed in the order of citation in the text and prepared as follows:
(1) All references must be written in English, including those originally published in Korean.
(2) References must follow the National Library of Medicine (NLM) style.
(3) References must be numbered consecutively in ascending order and listed at the end of the manuscript.
(4) Months of publication should be abbreviated to the first three letters (e.g., Mar, Sep).
(5) Journal titles should be abbreviated in accordance with NLM standards; book titles should not be abbreviated.
(6) References must be presented in plain text (no italics, boldface, or underlining).
(7) Author names should be listed as surname followed by initials without periods (e.g., Jang YS; Ellingwood BR).
